Did you hear?

That Obama was going to ban lobbyist from serving on federal advisory panals? Mark Morford brought it to my attention as well as providing a link to a list of 90 things Obama has accomplished this year.

I just want to point that out, because last night he also told us that he is also sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.

Trying to find balance.

This decade, this really sucky decade, is coming to an end. I, for one, can not wait. The oughts are ending!!! Still trying to decide an appropriate way to end the year. Suggestions?

  1. The only reason the military can keep up recruitment is because young people can’t find jobs. That’s a sorry state of affairs. But the New Year is coming so I’ll move to something more positive…

In 1999, I was one of the few people I knew who was not worried about Y2k. Rather than checking my telephone, computer and so on, I rang in the New Year with a party that lasted until the ball dropped in New York, and then got up at 5;00 a.m. to take my tripod and cameras) on a 40-minute drive to photograph the sunrise in Springfield, Illinois, right along the historic block where Abraham Lincoln’s house and neighborhood still stand (from his days as a lawyer). Very authentic except for my then modern camera equipment and a party goer who who walked through the neighborhood on his way home.

The turn of this decade seems to call for another big something, a looking forward, hope. There’s nothing quite like experiencing the sunrise in a beautiful place on the morning of the New Year. So, Julia, that’s my suggestion. What is beautiful and/or worthy of inspiration where you live? Could you take your Nikie baby along to share the experience with us? Spending time with people you love is wonderful for ringing in the year, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling of a sunrise spent in solitude.

  2. Thank you, Julia. I love the post about your dad, and am happy to hear that the Padgett Homestead will go on in a new time with a new family. Happy New Year 2010!
